Chinese Tea Ceremony, Ballroom First Dance, and Gaming Inspired Reception all while looking over Flushing Meadows?!

When you think of a Queens wedding, you might picture skyline views, incredible food, and a guest list that feels like one big family reunion.
This one had all of that PLUS Pokémon, bubble tea, DDR, a Photobooth, ballroom dancing, and a claw machine?! I mean Damn. What more could we want? Because why choose between tradition and personality… when you can have both?
Our couple’s Terrace on the Park wedding in Flushing, Queens was the perfect example of what we love most about Queens wedding planning: honoring culture, celebrating family, and then turning the party dial all the way up.
It was joyful.
It was nostalgic.
And it was SO unmistakably them.

Meet the Couple
By day, they’re polished professionals, but by night? These two are gamers, dancers, and fun seekers.
Their relationship grew around late-night gaming sessions, shared favorite shows, and bubble tea runs around Queens. And while they love a good Pokémon reference or Dance Dance Revolution battle, family and tradition are at the heart of everything they do. With both families rooted in Queens, it was important that their wedding felt close to home. Terrace on the Park was the perfect choice for this one because you can see quite literally all of Queens.
Why They Chose Terrace on the Park
If you’re researching Queens wedding venues, you’ve probably come across Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. It’s one of the most iconic ballroom wedding venues in Queens, known for 360 views of the zoo, Astoria, the City, and so much more. It sits perched above Flushing Meadows right by where the cows are at the zoo.
The penthouse-level spaces give you:
Classic ballroom, perfect for a Classically trained Ballroom Dancer
Panoramic views of Flushing Meadows
Plenty of guest capacity for large families
On-site catering options (but they also gave us the flexibility of using an outside catered Chinese buffet)
And that unmistakable “New York wedding” energy
For our couple, it checked every practical box. It comfortably hosted their guest count and kept them right in their own neighborhood.
But here’s where wedding planning gets fun:
Just because a venue is traditional… doesn’t mean the wedding has to be. We completely reimagined the space to reflect their personality.
A Morning Rooted in Tradition: Chinese Tea Ceremony
The day began getting ready in our brides childhood home surrounded by family. Getting to put on her wedding dress in the room she grew up in was one of the highlights of the day. Then we moved to the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Corona Park for couples photos.
Getting back to the venue, we started with one of the most meaningful parts of the celebration a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.
In a quiet, intimate setting with family gathered close, the couple honored their parents and elders with tea, gratitude, and the exchange of red envelopes. The bride wore a stunning traditional Chinese dress (qipao) for the ceremony, before changing into her reception gown later in the day. Moments like this are why we love planning multicultural weddings in Queens. The day gets to hold both legacy and modern love stories in the same breath.
Transforming a Ballroom into an Arcade Party
Our couple got married on the Terrace overlooking the Park, at Sunset with New York City Surrounding them. Once guests entered the reception, the energy shifted from sentimental to straight-up celebration. And this is where their personalities really took over.
We took Terrace on the Park’s classic ballroom and layered in playful, unexpected moments that made the night feel less like a formal banquet and more like the world’s best party.
Imagine…
A claw machine stocked with personalized prizes
Dance Dance Revolution set up as a mini arcade
Video game inspired table names
A bubble tea bar
Espresso martinis + a full martini bar
A personalized photo booth experience
Every corner had something interactive. Guests weren’t just sitting at tables, they were playing, laughing, competing, and DANCING. It felt like a wedding and an afterparty all at once.
The Ballroom Moment: From Tradition to Ballroom Glamour
One of our favorite moments of the day? The Ballroom Dance.
After the tea ceremony, the bride swapped her traditional dress for a flowing white ballroom-style gown, perfect for what was coming next.
Because this wasn’t just a first dance. It was a full performance. You see, our bride is professionally Trained as a Ballroom Dancer and all of her Ballroom Dancing friends were also in attendance.
With sparklers and Dancing on a Cloud effects, she and her partner glided across the floor like something out of an old Hollywood movie. Years of ballroom training turned into a magical, cinematic moment that had every guest cheering. It was Totally unforgettable.
After the Dance, the rest of the classically trained Ballroom Dancers took the floor turning the Ballroom at Terrace on the Park into a Dance Competition.
The Design
Their palette of pinks and purples kept the space feeling romantic but playful, this was a softer counterpoint to the high-energy entertainment. Florals, lighting, and custom details added warmth and personality, while still respecting the grandeur of the ballroom setting.
The overall vibe was Classic Queens wedding meets gamer love story meets family banquet, in the best possible way.
