Capturing Love in New York: Photography Insights from Amy Sims of Amy Sims Photography

Meet Amy Sims – Wedding Photographer and fabulous human

Couple gets ready togetherIn the wedding world, there are photographers who show up with a shot list and a timeline… and then there are wedding photographers who show up feeling like an old friend, somehow remembering your dog’s name, your favorite pizza order, and exactly how your partner makes you laugh. Amy Sims is firmly in that second category. The kind of human you meet once and immediately think, oh good, you’re here. After more than a decade in the industry, Amy has built a reputation not just for beautiful photos, but for capturing weddings in a way that feels deeply personal and “you.” Which, as you know, is very much our love language over here at Campbell Events. Today, Amy popped onto the podcast to tell us all about it!

Amy’s story starts with 17 years in Queens and a very serious life transition from Astoria to Forest Hills (a move that, if you’re a New Yorker, absolutely requires finding a new go-to pizza spot and reassessing your entire personality). That neighborhood pride and sense of community show up everywhere in her work. She pays attention to the family dynamics, the inside jokes, the way your friends crowd the dance floor. Amy’s images come to life in the way that she captures the personal details and small moments throughout the day.

Before weddings, Amy grew up in a theatrical family, meaning drama and timing basically shaped her DNA from the start, but it wasn’t until after her own wedding that she found her way into the industry for good. After interning and soaking up all the hot tips from other photography pros, she made the leap into launching her own business in 2015. You can feel that lived experience in the way she works now. She is someone who knows exactly when to step in and when to quietly let a moment unfold.

Amy’s Philosophy

What really makes Amy our kind of photographer though, is her philosophy. She’s not chasing trends she wants guests to leave a wedding saying, “That was so them.” Not just pretty or personal or styled, but honest. She gravitates toward the in-between moments and the little the laugh you didn’t know anyone caught. It’s the same approach we take when planning, highlighting authentic moments and leaning into personality. (Also, small but delightful side note: she’s into herbalism and blends her own teas, which feels very on-brand for someone who radiates calm and somehow makes everyone around her breathe a little deeper.)

These days, Amy’s photographing love stories all over New York at iconic spaces like The Foundry and 620 Loft & Garden, working with couples who care more about meaning than tradition and more about connection than perfection. She values intentional celebrations where people actually get to enjoy their day.  Amy’s work makes documenting weddings that feel like real life, just a little more magical. And if you ask us, that’s exactly how it should be.
